teamToken vs fal.ai: video and image pricing, model for model

fal.ai has been around since 2021, holds SOC 2, and lists roughly 1,100 models against our 51. This page is not an argument that it is a bad platform. It is a per-unit price comparison on the models both of us carry, with the rows where fal.ai wins left in.

Where the gap is widest

Nano Banana Pro. We charge a flat $0.027 an image at any resolution; fal.ai charges $0.15 at 1K and 2K and $0.30 at 4K. At 4K that is eleven times, and the reason is structural rather than promotional: our price attaches to the call, so resolution never enters the sum.

The row where fal.ai is cheaper

GPT Image 2. Their floor is $0.006 an image against our $0.06, which is an order of magnitude below us at the bottom of the range. Our ceiling sits lower than theirs, so on the expensive tiers the direction flips, but if cheap GPT-Image calls in bulk are your workload, fal.ai wins that one outright.

We are leaving the row in rather than quietly picking four favourable models. A price table you can disprove in one click is worth less than no table at all.

What fal.ai does not do

Text models. fal.ai hosts media models and nothing else, so there is no equivalent of one key covering both sides. If your product needs an LLM gateway anyway, that is either two vendors and two invoices, or one.

Switching over

Media requests here use the same OpenAI-compatible shape as text, on the same key and the same base_url. There is no separate media account and no second SDK. Parameter names differ between platforms, so model schemas are worth reading before a migration rather than during one.

Questions we get

Does fal.ai sell LLM access too?
No, it is a media platform. Text models are not part of the product.
Is teamToken cheaper on everything fal.ai carries?
No. This compares the models both platforms carry, and fal.ai's catalog is roughly twenty times larger, so most of it has no counterpart here at any price.
Are the request formats identical?
Both are OpenAI-compatible in shape, but parameter names are not the same. Check the schema of the specific model before migrating.

When fal.ai is the better call

Catalog breadth decides it. Around 1,100 models against our 51, covering open-source releases and niche fine-tunes that we do not carry and are not going to. If the model you need is outside the mainstream Veo, Seedance, Nano Banana and GPT Image set, it is very likely there and not here.

They also have things a young service does not: five years of track record, SOC 2, named enterprise deployments at Canva, Perplexity and Quora, and an inference engine the company says runs up to ten times faster. That last number is their own benchmark and we have not verified it independently, so treat it as their claim rather than as a fact we are passing along.

And their developer ecosystem is real: an active GitHub org, a Discord, a Reddit community. For a team that needs an enterprise SLA or a very wide catalog, that infrastructure matters more than a per-second price difference.
